Produce a random password of the length and composition you choose. Generation happens entirely in the browser, using the platform's cryptographic generator: nothing is transmitted or stored.

How it works

Password strength is measured as entropy, in bits: it depends on the number of possible characters and on the length. Each extra character raises entropy far more reliably than a wider symbol set does.

entropy = length × log2(set size)
e.g. 16 characters from 94 possible ≈ 105 bits

Frequently asked questions

What length should I choose?

At least 16 characters for an everyday account, more for a password manager or disk encryption. Length matters more than the complexity of the character set.

Do I really need special characters?

They help, but less than people think. Going from 12 to 16 characters adds more entropy than adding symbols to a short password, and gives something easier to type.

Is this generator safe?

It relies on crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographic random generator, rather than Math.random, which offers no guarantee at all. No password is sent over the network or saved.
